In the summer, the park plays host to a range of music festivals including British Summertime which hosts many of the best pop acts in the world over a riveting week in July. For the more classically inclined, Proms in the Park incorporates the BBC proms into a picnic setting, showcasing some of the best and brightest in the orchestral and classical world. The queen was given her own leisure park, complete with sunken gardens designed in the Dutch style.

This garden incorporates flower arrangements, water features and sculpture into a plot of land which exemplifies the high fashion of garden design at the time.

Not only does the garden exude style, but the grand Kensington Manor house set within the garden walls, which is set within vast and beautiful fields. Taking a trip from the hustle and bustle of Hyde Park and entering into the serene Kensington Gardens can feel like stepping into another world entirely. And thus is the beauty of London, one moment you are in a noisy street and then you round a corner to a beautiful hidden gem right in the centre of the city.

Based in the Queensway area of Bayswater, Cosmopolitan Street is the bright and colourful centre of the Queensway shopping area. Incorporating beautiful independent shops, high class world renowned cuisine and great pubs, you can be sure to find epitome of diversity in the Bayswater area.

One of the main shopping centres of the city, Whiteleys acts as a bastion of consumer heaven, the shopping centre opening in and still running strong to this day. This is a plush part of Bayswater; cosmopolitan and glamorous, lined with tall Victorian town houses and home to Kensington Gardens. Hyde Park is also very close by! A strong community feel comes across too. Destination 9 contributions. Great for students or budget travellers!

As a university student on a budget, Bayswater was the perfect area to stay in. There are a number of cheap-decently priced small size hotels that are very clean and serviced for the price paid. The neighbourhood has many family run shops, pubs and restaurants that offer a variety of foods and products at good prices. In terms of convenience, the local tube stations of Bayswater and Queensway are quite close to central London so it's not a long ride to get to other tourist attractions.

Kensington Gardens and Notting Hill are a close walk away! We booked apartment 6 at 67 Inverness terrace Bayswater London through Shortlet-London, the photos looked fine but obviously were taken some time ago. We also should have been told we would need to go out and purchase electricity credit when booking.

To use the toaster or kettle you need to drag it to the edge to plug it into a power board that runs across the back of the sink and oven. The towels looked worse than the ones I recently donated to an animal shelter for dog washes. The place smells musty and there is considerable mould beside the bed and so much damp it trickles down the wall beside the bed.

Bathroom drains stink and the porcelain pipe cover is hanging on under the bathroom sink by a single screw. The shower is just a trickle and it takes a very long time to get shampoo out of your hair.

The doona is old and the cover has stains. There are two plates but one is chipped. The pillows are less comfortable than a bag of old rags and were folded back to make them look plump, they should have been replaced ages ago. The paint work is damaged and shoddily done from the get go. My favourite part of London and the area I always choose to stay. Queensway one of the main roads in the area has two tube stations Queensway and Bayswater that are about a two minute walk from each other whilst Paddington, Notting Hill and Royal Oak tube stations are all accessible on foot.

There are loads of great places to eat serving dishes from all over the planet Chinese, Indian, Moroccan, Lebanese, Greek, Italian and more and there are also many great bars such as The Porchester and the Black Lion.

While flats dominate the property market, there are also some wonderful mews houses and five and six bedroom family houses in and around Connaught Square.

Locals return again and again to the traditional Cypriot Aphrodite Taverna. Local Greek restaurant, Halepi is also particularly popular and Richard Branson has been known to make a regular appearance. From there, head over to the Serpentine Gallery in Hyde Park, a favourite place for modern and contemporary art. For those of a more scientific bent, the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum is in Paddington, where you can see the laboratory in which Fleming discovered penicillin.

Culture: The Print Room is an arts space in an old Coronet cinema. The building is home to a vibrant fringe theatre and the plan is to restore the cinema itself as well. Every Sunday Bayswater Road becomes one big art gallery, with more than artists and craftspeople displaying their work. Set in the very heart of London, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens make up more than acres of green space, separated by the Serpentine and Long Water, and there is plenty to do and see in both parks.

There is the chance to take part in many activities, including football, tennis, swimming in the lido, cycling and horse riding. Hyde Park also plays host to many different events, from rock concerts to Proms in the Park to the annual Winter Wonderland. Rail: Paddington station offers services to the western suburbs and beyond to destinations including Devon, Cornwall, Bristol and Wales, as well as the Heathrow Express, which will take you to the airport in 15 minutes.

Bayswater and its surrounding areas provide a wealth of choice for parents when it comes to schools. At secondary level, Westminster Academy and Holland Park School have good reputations, or pick one of the independent schools in the area: Wetherby School at prep level, and Lansdowne College or Tabernacle School at senior level.
