A team of firefighters climbed to the terrace of the building to spray water on the fourth and fifth floors of Bagri Market. Workers in the building joined hands with those who have shops in the fire zone to shift whatever stock they could salvage.

Though the collapsible gates are usually bolted on Sundays, those in Mehta Building opened their doors to extend all possible help to their neighbours in distress. People arranged for food, water and places to rest for those who had lost their shops in the fire.
