A new report revealed the average cost of parts and labour charged by garages in different parts of the UK when they performend one of nine common vehicle repairs.

There are huge differences in the bills motorists receive for repair costs depending on where they are in Britain, the data provided by ClickMechanic for car finance provider Moneybarn shows.

It appears Londoners have to pay more than drivers across the rest of the UK when it comes to having their motors fixed. The most shocking comparison is the average price of a cylinder head gasket replacement. Moneybarn said there was also a significant difference when you look at a fuel filter replacement, which is a part that needs to be replaced frequently. Motorists in the North West are charged the least for labour on average, with Scotland being the second cheapest region for all car repairs except a replacement cylinder head gasket.

Londoners face the biggest mechanic labour costs, while motorists in the North West and Scotland are charged the least. Simon Bayley, sales and marketing director at Moneybarn, said the price difference between the cost of car parts and labour costs is 'staggering', especially when comparing the bills of motorists living in the north and the south.
