Where is yap state
There is no formal dress in Yap, so dress casual and be comfortable. Women should cover their thighs with loose slacks, long shorts or skirts. Sunscreens are available at hotels and dive shops, but if you have a particular brand you like, bring your own supply. Hats are worn by just about everybody to keep out the sun, and good sunglasses are essential for boating.
Diving is good year round, with the Trade Winds blowing from November to May. During these months, manta dives are done in Mi'il Channel and our reef and wall dives are at the southern end and western side of the island.
Boat rides for the reefs can be rough at times, but the diving sites are calm and safe. In the summer months, June through October, manta dives are done in both Mi'il and Goofnuw Channels for the mantas, and all of the reefs around Yap are accessible as the winds cease and the ocean is usually calm. With our current flight schedule of three arrivals per week, visitors can stay anywhere from two to seven nights or more. Visits of five to seven days are typical, with some visitors staying three weeks or more.
Yap has its own recompression facility, owned by the Yap State Health Department, located at the hospital in Colonia, and operated by volunteers from both the hospital and the diving community.
Bringing your family to Yap is a wonderful experience for children and parents alike. There are several taxi companies. Women should cover their thighs when in public places. Dance is an art form in Yap. Through dance, legends are passed down, history is recorded and entertainment is created. The dances of Yap are raucous, colorful and well- orchestrated. Men and women both start at an early age to learn this special Yap tradition. This traditional life carries into the villages where fishing, sailing and weaving are still important parts of everyday life.
Grass skirts for the women and thu'us, a type of loincloth, for the men are the basic garb in the small towns that sit in tranquil settings around the island.
The people of Yap are shy but warm. The Executive Branch is headed by a Govenor and a Lt. Governor and they are primarily resposible for executing the laws and administering state government services. VI of the Yap State Constitution. The legislative power of the State is vested in the Legislature.
Such power extends to all rightful subjects of legislation not inconsistent with the Yap Constitution.
The Legislature is composed of ten members, who shall be elected by the qualified voters of their respective election districts. V of the Yap State Constitution.
The judicial power of the State is vested in its State Court, and other courts as may be created by law.
